Learn To Book Bind

At Burford Lit Fest we want to give you the opportunity to truly immerse your yourself in books. As as well as over 40 authors we have three workshops, Poetry Writing with Sue Leigh, Creative Writing for Juniors with Francesca Gibbons and Book Binding with artist and author, Lorna Gray.

Learn traditional book binding in this enjoyable in-person workshop and make your own hand bound hardback notebook. The ticket price includes a special book binding kit which contains everything you will need on the day.

In this warm and relaxed session, you will be taken step by step through the stages of binding your own hardback notebook using a traditional technique – perfect to give as a gift or keep for yourself!

There are plenty of opportunities to ask questions as we go along and we describe this workshop as suitable for comfortable crafters – there is a little sewing with a blunt needle and some gluing.

This is the perfect introduction to traditional book binding. Spaces are limited so be sure to reserve your place early.

The workshop runs for approximately 2 hours.

About your tutor:

Lorna Gray will be leading this special event for Burford Literary Festival. Lorna runs Cotswolds publishing company Crumps Barn Studio with her husband. Crumps Barn Studio publishes memoir and poetry and illustrated children’s books. Unusually, some titles are produced in rare and collectable hand bound hardback.

Lorna will be teaching you the same technique she uses when binding print volumes by hand. She’s found that her relationship with the printed word has changed very subtly thanks to the hours that go into binding each volume – when you join Lorna to make your own hand bound notebook, you’ll share this experience.
